What if your leaders are 'off track?'

The relationship between our beliefs and 'reality' is complex and concrete. Often what we believe becomes our reality even when another reality exists. Now, before we decide to take the red pill and join Neo in the Matrix, I'm mentioning this relationship between belief and 'reality' because it is why so many people in leadership positions create disengaged followers. They believe they are leading in the 'right direction' but in 'reality,' they are 'facing the wrong way!'

There was a story in the papers this week which told of millions of devout Muslims praying to Kenya and Southern Somalia instead of Mecca due to an error in an edict sent out giving Mosques directions to the sacred Kaaba sight in Mecca.

Now up until it was discovered the direction was wrong, everyone believed they were praying to Mecca presumably getting all the 'benefits' associated with that. So will all that change now people know they were facing the wrong direction? For some/many/all yes it will. Even though clerics say it is not a problem, some devout followers will believe it is, and that 'new' belief is all it takes to override any 'good' that came from previous prayers.

So what that story got to do with leadership? Well one of the benefits clients say they gain from my Leadership D.N.A Mentoring is that they get to 'check the direction' they are facing and explore some of the 'leadership beliefs' they are holding which helps them gauge how authentic they are when in their leadership role.

When people go through my Leadership D.N.A Mentoring, they get to understand what they believe about leadership, what they believe about themselves as leaders, and gain an insight into what engages or disengages them from their followers
